Raksha bandhan – the unique love between brothers and sisters was celebrated today by students of 5th and 6th grades in the school auditorium.

The celebrations started with a prayer. While Anand Upadhyay and Shreyas Randive of 11th grade rendered a heart touching song “Meri Behna Ye Rakhi Ki Laaj Tera Bhaiya Nibhayega “, Amrutha Ratheesh and Gayathri Gopakumar sang “Phoolon ka taaron ka sabka kehna hai, ek hazaaron mein meri behna hai”which set the tempo for the celebrations.

Srushti Mishra of 7 C gave a short speech in Hindi on the significance of this festival by saying that the bond of love should not be confined to just a day’s celebration, but should be observed as a life long commitment of a brother not only to his blood sister but to the entire female fraternity.

Citing examples from the Mahabharata, Principal Brni. Rekha in her address to the students explained the journey of transformation of this sacred thread. In olden days, while women used to tie rakhi around the wrist of men and pray for their safety. In recent times, though, brothers promise to safeguard the honor of their sisters.

Brni. Rekha guided the students to apply tilak, tie rakhi, exchange sweets. The ceremony ended with the girls taking aarti and the chanting of Shanti Mantra.

It was a fun filled occasion for all.

Happy Raksha Bandhan to all!!
