POCSO ACT
A workshop for creating awareness on the POCSO Act was held for the teachers on 29th April 2023. The workshop was conducted by advocate Mrs. Devrupa Dey Mitra. The session aimed at providing clarity and sensitising the teachers about the impact of CSA (Child Sexual Abuse) on a child’s emotional wellbeing.
The teachers were encouraged to look out for subtle shifts in a child’s behaviour and be alert to any changes in a child’s behaviour or appearance that could indicate abuse.
In case a child discloses abuse, teachers should immediately report the matter to the concerned authorities of school and then reported to child helpline 1098.
She told the responsibility of protection of children from sexual offences should be taken very seriously by schools, teachers and parents alike. In order to prevent child sexual abuse and exploitation, schools must create an environment where children feel safe and secure, and where they can freely report any instances of abuse.
She ended with an emphasis on the need to create a teacher student dynamic which is rooted in sensitivity and emotional responsiveness, making it easier for the students to confide in their teachers.
