Every disposable pad has the equivalent of 4 plastic bags in it. This plastic would contaminate the environment for hundreds of years to come. When we burn the used pads, then harmful furans and dioxins would be released into the atmosphere, which not only pollutes the air that we breathe but the environment as a whole. To combat climate change, support zero-waste communities, empower women, and transform lives – Mata Amritanandamayi Math did the pilot launch of SAUKHYAM – Reusable Pads made of Banana fiber in association with Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation on 29th of December. Additional commissioner of NMMC, Ms. Sujatha Dilip Dhole addressed the audience and congratulated Team Saukhyam for this wonderful initiative and assured support from NMMC for this project. She was accompanied by Ms. Dhanshree Gurav, Director of WASH who works for Shelter and Water for low income communities. Administrator Brni. Sharanyamrita Chaitanyaji addressed the audience and spoke about Amma’s life and importance of love for nature and environment. Around 150 girl students with their mothers of class 8 and 9 were part of the program. All the girls were handed over free kit of Saukhyam resuable pads with a promise that they will use it and be the carriers of change which we want to see in this world and save Mother Nature.
