The main aim of Eco and Heritage club was to make students aware of the most important fact : Earth gives us everything needed for us to sustain. How do we utilize these resources and ensure that we leave a clean footprint. The residual parts of fruits, vegetables, flowers and leaves can be used as food for trees. A short video of Compost Pit was shown to students of 3rd and 4th grades. Once they understood the process, they were taken down to the school ground, where a 2 foot pit was dug. The students filled the pit with fruit and vegetable peels, dried grass and flower. Finally, soil was added which will be the last layer. Earthworms present in the soil, which are nature’s ploughing agents will help in the composting process. This practical knowledge will undoubtedly help the students to understand that nothing goes waste in nature.
