As part of Mata Amritanandamayi Devi’s 71st Birthday celebrations, Amrita Vidyalayam had taken up community reach-out program on 21st September 2024. The management invited 30 blind people from Mumbai for this event. It was a significant occasion and an unusual learning experience for the students to interact and spend the day with visually impaired team. The students of classes 11th and 12th were given the responsibility to host the event which was done in an exemplary manner. It was truly divine to observe students’ love and care for them, which was spontaneous and naturally driven.
The event began with a brief introduction by Mr. Darshan Kamble who represented visually impaired team and also co-ordinated in bringing the team to the School. Every member introduced themselves, hearing which the students were shocked and surprised to know the educational background and jobs that they managed doing in-spite of their physical disability. It was an eye-opener for the teens to work hard and not find excuses.
Students played antakshari with them and were stunned to hear them sing so melodiously with rhythm. The visually impaired team won the game by singing outstandingly. They also exhibited their talents of playing tabla, solo singing and singing in female voice which everyone enjoyed to their hearts fill.
On this occasion Kartika Puja was done which was led by Brni. Sharanyamrita Chaitanya, the administrator of Amrita Vidyalayam. Everyone participated in the Archana, Bhajan and guided meditation program which transformed the place filling with positivity and love. Sharanyamritaji in her satsang shared the life and teachings of Mahatma and its importance in each one’s life. She quoted instances from Mahabharata to teach how life is a challenge and is unfair many a times, but depends on each one what we make of it. Everyone partook Prasad after the puja.
The students then handed over Kit packed by them which contained 5kg rice, tooth paste and brush, body scrub, shaving kit, towel, T-shirt, bathing and washing soaps, coconut oil, and biscuits. Food was arranged for the guests. It was absolutely emotional to see the students help them wash hands to eat, serve them food with love, make them eat, ensure if they needed more and collect plates after they ate.
It was difficult to part but the event ended with gratitude and thanksgiving to each one and they also shared their joy in being a part of this wonderful event.
Last but not the least, the students took active part in ensuring that they all could find their footwear properly and made them reach the vehicle, holding them by their hands.
