Students of 9th and 11th grades attended a workshop on “Career Guidance” on 26/7/18. The workshop was conducted by an expert career counseling team from Extra Marks. The team led by an experienced career counselor Mr. Asif Khan, who first interacted with the students to understand their aspirations. While quite a few students were sure about their career goals, many students were confused and undecided.
With the help of a wonderful PPT presentation, Mr. Khan took the students through the various stages of career decisions a student faces. Exam pressures, Lack of Counselling, Gender Stereotyping, Peer Pressure, Familial factor and Mental health, etc. were factors that play a major role for students while choosing a career.
Students were advised on constructing a career plan first which will lead to Self discovery and exploring the world of work. This will help them to make important decisions to prepare for a career. He allayed the confusions in their minds over the vast career options available currently and said that these confusions are bound to happen. More options mean more confusion. Joining the herd mentality will be the easiest decision that a student takes during these times. Students were encouraged to pursue courses seek out offbeat career options such as Prosthetics, Physiotherapy, Orthodontist, Ethical hacking, Economist, Social work etc. that will give them a professional edge over others.
He also introduced the Career Assessement Program which can be given by students to assess their personality, interest and aptitude. A one-on-one session with parents will be conducted to discuss the areas of interest of each student. The psychometric test will pave the way for the students to pursue career options which they might have never thought about.
The workshop triggered a lot of interest amongst the students and saw the students talking to each other on the numerous fields available for them to pursue.
