On the occasion of Police Rising Day on Friday, January 5, 2018, a highly informative workshop on “Connecting Police with the Public” was conducted for the Sr. Secondary students in the school auditorium. The workshop was conducted by Mr. R.M Kothlikar, Mr. OR Mahekar, Mrs. Ghorpade who are Deputy Superintendent of Police, CID Crime Branch and Mr. Brijesh Shinde, PS, Konkan Bhavan, Navi Mumbai
The focus of the workshop was on the role of police in a society and breaking the barriers of miscommunication between the police and the public. The CID’s took the students on a Step by Step process of how the public can approach the police with their complaints and the processes that are involved to tackle a situation. They also learnt about the various departments and the jurisdiction under which complaints must be registered. Misconceptions regarding FIR were discussed in detail. Students, especially girls, found this workshop highly informative as they were encouraged to not keep silent but come forward in the event of any miscreants creating nuisance for them.
The workshop also focused on the burning issue of cybercrime. While students were made aware of the various perils that lurk while using social media, they also learnt how the department uses digital technology to effectively track vehicle/mobile theft, locating missing people and reaching out to families of unclaimed bodies. Students were introduced to a very useful app “Maharashtra Police Citizen Portal” which will help them to connect with the police department during crisis. The app would benefit citizens due to its ability to address issues immediately.
The question-answer session saw students coming up with interesting questions on how to approach the correct department for issues on traffic, corruption, bullying etc.
The session ended with a vote of thanks to the officers and the chanting of Shanti Mantra.
