On July 20, 2019 around 110 mothers and students of 6th to 8th grades assembled in the auditorium of Amrita Vidyalayam and participated with great zeal in the Matru Puja celebrations. This Puja is conducted each year in order to instill respect and love in the minds of children for their parents.
“Matha Pitha Guru Daivam” is a very popular adage in Sanskrit language. The meaning of this is the greatest truth and the order in which one should offer reverence.
The Puja started with the lighting of the auspicious lamp by Swamiji Br.Avyayayamrita Chaitanya and Brni. Rekha, amidst chants of “Om Amriteshwaryay Namah”. The celebrations started with a brief address by Swamiji wherein he said that, in our day to day lives, we take for granted, the role of ‘mother’ and forget what a decisive role she builds in shaping our character. The immediate need is for the technologically advanced current generation to understand moral values, and what better age than this tender age inculcate these moral values, which acts as a lesson for life.
Thereafter, Swamiji performed the Guru Paduka Puja by offering Panchamrut and Guru Stotram was chanted by one and all. Amma’s Namavalli (108 sacred chants of Amma) was chanted and flowers were offered at the Holy lotus feet of Amma. The children sat at their mothers’ feet and followed the detailed guidance given by Swamiji. As a part of the ceremony, the children washed the feet of their mothers. After washing the feet, the students applied Chandan and Kum Kum. The children garlanded their mothers’, worshipped them and took their blessings which was a wonderful moment. The children took Aarti and offered flowers to their mothers while chanting ‘OM MATRE NAMAH’. The faces of the children and mothers’ were beaming with joy when they hugged each other. The auditorium was filled with melodious Bhajans sung by Swamiji, along with Principal Brni. Rekha and devotees.
Amma’s Aarti was performed and the ceremony ended with the partake of Prasad by all.
The program ended with the chanting Shanti Mantra. Everybody offered flowers at the holy lotus feet of Amma and received Prasad from Swamiji.
